1st Change
Your first change for any piercing you get with us is a free service; just bring a piece of jewelry that you'd like installed, or buy one from us when you come in.
For Salvatore you'll want to book that appointment online or call ahead to set up a time to come in. Appointments booked online will require a $10 deposit, which is refunded or applied to the cost of jewelry when you come in.
For Jupiter you can walk in whenever they're in the studio and they'll be happy to help you on a first come first serve basis.
Making Saline
1/4 Tsp Non-Iodized Table Salt
8oz of Clean Water (Warm if Desired)
Mix Generously
Using Saline
Saline can be applied in a variety of effective ways, basically as long as both sides* of the piercing are fully saturated for a full 2 minutes you've done a successful cleaning. Using a spray bottle, soaking a cotton ball/paper towel, or fully submerging the piercing in a cup of the solution are all viable options, but feel free to get creative and put it in a clean squirt gun or something!
*For nostrils only the outside needs to be soaked, but a small amount can be used on a cotton swab to clean away any crusting or boogers from the jewelry.
Oral Aftercare
To clean the inside of oral piercings you'll want to use the same saline mix as you'll be applying to the outside. Simply swish it around the mouth for a full 2 minutes while you're soaking the exterior and that should help keep things happy and healthy on the inside.
You will also want to do a quick 3-5 second swish and spit with either saline or non-alcoholic mouth wash each time you eat, drink, smoke, or do anything that could leave particulate matter in your mouth.
Be careful not to do too many long cleanings a day as you can overclean the inside of your mouth and kill off some of the good bacteria that help keep the balance of the microbiome that is your mouth.
Dermal Aftercare
For the first week of care you'll want to wear a band-aid over your dermal most of the day, especially when you're in situations where it might get easily snagged. You are welcome to give it some air periodically, but the pressure from the bandage will help it heal flush to your skin. I recommend the small square or circular bandages, but really anything will work as long as it can provide that even downward pressure.
It is also a good idea to clean under the top of your dermal periodically to remove any crusting or dead skin build up. Using the tip of a clean toothpick, cardstock, or unflavored floss can work great for this and helps to prevent build up from pulling the dermal away from the surface of your skin.
Things to Avoid
-Scented products or things that have potentially irritating chemicals (soaps, makeup, Bactine, etc).
-Exposing your piercing to bodies of water—submerging or splashing can quickly cause an infection.
-Putting pressure on the piercing (gentle pressure like clothing can sometimes be helpful for certain piercings though).
Piercing Bumps
Sometimes with piercings you can develop an excess of scar tissue as your body tries to find a way to fully close the piercing while jewelry is still in the way. This typically presents as something that looks like a pimple or bump developing right around the piercing. Scarring of this nature usually brings with it some extra discomfort, redness, and more white light yellow or clear discharge.
There are multiple treatments available for keloiding, and while they can go away on their own they do often require a secondary treatment.
Tea Tree Oil
Applied directly with a Q-tip or similar product
2-3x a day and let dry on skin
2-3 full weeks or at least 1 full week after the bump disappears
Chamomile Tea Soaks
Soak in hot water (not hot enough to burn you) and apply directly
2-3x a day for 3-5 minutes each session
2-3 full weeks or at least 1 full week after the bump disappears
Aspirin Paste
Crush an aspirin into a powder and mix with just enough water to form a paste that can be applied to the area and left to dry
2-3x a day and then wash and dry once the paste has sat long enough to fully dry
2-3 full weeks or at least 1 full week after the bump disappears
Baking Soda Based Whitening Toothpaste (Oral)
For keloids inside the mouth you can apply a whitening toothpaste with baking soda in it to the affected area
2-3x a day for 3-5 minutes at a time—reapply if needed
2-3 full weeks or at least 1 full week after the bump disappears
